Caterina Salvotti

Caterina Salvotti is a doctoral candidate in the Performance Psychophysiology Group at the German Sport University Cologne. Her research focuses on how breathing techniques modulate the autonomic nervous system, cardiac dynamics, and brain activity, with particular interest in neuro-visceral mechanisms such as the heartbeat-evoked potential (HEP) and their relationship to HRV and self-regulation.

Her academic work investigates the effects of slow- and fast-paced breathing on physiological regulation and psychophysiological performance markers, integrating perspectives from physiology, neuroscience, and applied performance psychology. Alongside her research, Caterina brings together research-informed and yoga-informedapproaches to support wellbeing, stress regulation, and performance in diverse settings, including sport, occupational contexts, and everyday life.

By combining scientific rigor with practical expertise in breathing-based interventions, she contributes to a deeper understanding of how targeted respiratory strategies can enhance autonomic balance, cognitive functioning, and overall human performance.
