Esther Álvarez Carrillo

From 2019 to 2023 she coursed her bachelor's degree in Clinical Psychology at Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP, Mexico), where she gained knowledge and experience about cognitive and behavioural processes, mental disorders, neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases, therapy techniques, stress management strategies, and overall mental wellbeing. Her interests, however, always leaned more towards the biological components of behaviour, and how the brain works.

In 2024 she started her master's degree in Applied Neuroscience in Sports and Exercise at Paderborn University, combining her growing interest for physiolgy, psychology, and sports. She is currently doing her internship at the German Sport Unviersity Cologne (DSHS) under Prof. Dr. Dr. Sylvain Laborde, working on scientific communication and taking part on important projects such as the HRV Test Battery, which aims to create a protocol using a series of psychological and physiological tests to analyse HRV and make a diagnosis of it.

Looking ahead, she plans to work on her master thesis with Dr. Laborde and the HRV Test Battery, focusing on how cognition and the autonomic nervous system (measured via HRV metrics) work hand in hand and provide insights on athletes' recovery processes.
